What is Invisalign?
A lot of people aren’t completely satisfied with their smiles. Crooked or crowded teeth or bite issues can make your smile look less-than-perfect, and contribute to jaw or tooth problems down the line. In the past, these issues could be fixed with traditional metal braces, but braces can be painful and unsightly. If you’d like to correct your smile without resorting to braces, Invisalign might be the right for you.
Invisalign uses custom-made clear aligners to gently shift your teeth into the proper position. They straighten your teeth comfortably and can help to fix bite issues as well. Depending on the severity of your issues, you may see a straighter smile in as little as six months. And the best part is that you can easily remove your Invisalign aligners for eating, drinking, brushing, and flossing. Because they’re clear, they are much less noticeable than traditional metal braces, and because they don’t use wires, you don’t have to worry about them cracking and breaking.
During your visit with our Invisalign-certified dentist, they will be able to construct a preview of what your smile will look like after treatment. Instead of taking molds of your teeth, your dentist will simply scan them to get an accurate 3D model. Your custom aligners will be built based on that model. When your aligners are done, your dentist will trim them down, so they’re comfortable. As your teeth shift into place, you’ll have new aligners made to perfect your smile.
Is Invisalign Right for Me?
Invisalign aligners can fix many of the problems that were once only fixed with traditional braces. But is Invisalign right for you? If you’re looking for straighter teeth, here are a few things to think about when considering your options:
- Eating and drinking – traditional braces restrict what you can eat. You may have to avoid some of your favorite foods for months or even years. Food and debris can also easily get caught in the wires and brackets. With Invisalign, you can eat and drink whatever you want, because the aligners are removable.
- Oral hygiene – it can sometimes be tricky to brush and floss with metal braces. But with removable Invisalign, you can continue your regular oral hygiene routines.
- Pain and discomfort – traditional metal brackets are notoriously uncomfortable. They must be tightened regularly, and the brackets can irritate sensitive tissue in your mouth. Invisalign, on the other hand, is custom-designed for your personal comfort.
- Appearance – traditional metal braces are noticeable. If you feel like this might make you self-conscious, Invisalign may be right for you.
Invisalign can not only help to straighten teeth, but can help to correct issues like overbite, underbite, crossbite, crowded teeth, gap teeth, or open bite. If any of these are an issue for you, as your dentist if Invisalign can help.
